General measures to prevent infection after transplant
- Take Daily bath with soap water.
- Observe your suture sites for any of the following:- redness, swelling, discolored drainage (pus), foul-smelling odor and report immediately to transplant surgeon in case you notice any of above.
- Limit exposure to large crowds during your first three months post-transplant.
- Avoid coming in close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands after using washroom.
- Wash hands before and after every meals.
- Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before cooking and eating
- Wearing a mask is optional (esp. use in public places, meeting, and outpatient clinics).
- Consult your transplant doctor before having dental work or surgery.
- Report to your treating doctor team in case of fever, cough, running nose, chills.
- Call the transplant clinic if you are exposed to measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis or any serious infection disease.
- No swimming in freshwater lakes, ponds or river.
- Avoid cattle care, changing pet litter, cleaning bird cages and fish tanks.
