Your blood pressure may continue to be high after your transplant, if you had high blood pressure before getting new kidney. High blood pressure might also occur as a side-effect of anti-rejection medications (immunosuppressant), organ rejection and/or obesity (from weight gain after transplant).
Should you check your blood pressure?
You should check your blood pressure as directed by your transplant team. Try to keep record of blood pressure readings. Check at least three times a day especially early morning after getting up from bed, daytime when you are most busy and at bedtime.
How can you control your blood pressure?
Your treating doctor will help you manage your blood pressure. Following measures are usually taken to control high Blood pressure:
- Blood pressure medication – taken timely and regularly.
- Weight control including regular exercise.
- A low-salt diet.
